Greenhouse Gas Emissions Cost Money

As we head into the Copenhagen climate change summit and the likelihood of the introduction of the CPRS in Australia, it is important for businesses to realise the reality of the situation. This is not something that businesses can bury their heads in the sand over. The most important message for all businesses to realise is that greenhouse gas emissions cost money. If you can work out a plan to save the greenhouse gases that your business currently emits through its various activities then you will save costs. This applies right now. For example if you can find a way to have more energy efficient lighting you will save in the electricity costs used to operate the lighting. The introduction of the CPRS will simply magnify the attractiveness of taking action by increasing costs across the board. In approaching the post GFC period, any business that has a competitive advantage will have an opportunity to prosper. Saving costs through reducing greenhouse gas emissions offers a common sense solution to adding greater flexibility to a business’ profit margin which creates the opportunity to take on competitors in the new carbon economy.
